    Understanding the CHAP Summary Report

    Potential Range
Possible score ranges are listed indicating the lowest score and the highest score for each scale. Every scale has a different scoring system and generates the range of scores accordingly.

    Raw Score
A raw score may be the mean of a person's responses to scale items, or it may be the sum of a person's responses to scale items. Every scale is scored differently. Raw scores should be used to summarize scores for groups of applicants or for research purposes.

    Potential to Foster
Based on the scoring criteria and/or cut-off scores of particular scales, each scale or subscale will produce ratings of low, medium, or high potential for fostering. A high potential suggests a strength for an applicant. A medium rating suggests an applicant has average potential in that area. A low rating suggests further discussion with the applicant followed by additional training or service, if necessary.

    Reasons for Fostering Checklist
This particular form is a checklist, not a measure of potential.
